Ive tried the chicken wraps from The Tortilla Shack in G9/1, and they are seriously addictive. Ditto for their hummus and fresh gulab jamuns. I call ahead, and pick them up at their front door. Eat them in my car, five minutes and its all gone! Look them uo on FB. Its a home based business, and very reasonably priced.

If you're looking for a clean desi breakfast in a nice environment, possibly on a terrace in the morning sun, check out Chattha's. They're the only ones to offer real desi ghee whole wheat paratha, something usually only cooked at home. Those are delicious and there will always be a line for their takeaway puris (fluffy deep-fried bread) on the weekends!

They also offer decent BBQ options and a range of local teas such as the wintery pink Kashmiri chai!

Chattha's is run by one of those rare restauranteurs in Islamabad who not only care about the quality of their food but also about consistency and unwavering hygiene.

I recently came across this shop in F6, close to KFC. It's called Galleria Gultex, and apparently they have a shop in Lahore and Karachi already.

It sells textiles (local, made in Multan, I was told), and they seem to be of pretty good quality and colourful and varied.

Just leaving the suggestion here in case relevant, I'm not associated with the shop whatsoever. :)

I've been doing a lot of carpet shopping/browsing recently and have been disappointed by the repetitive, clearly factory-made stuff in Islamabad (I admit I haven't tried in Pindi). But I feel I've found a hidden gem! Chobi carpets is in F6, kitty corner to Nando's and behind Kaspa's desserts but is in a bit of a construction zone so is not easy to come upon by chance. They have an amazingly extensive selection of high quality (and original) carpets of all varieties e.g. Afghan, Persian, Turkmen etc. far better than any of the other shops in F6. The owner, Abdul Majeed, is lovely and very helpful.

If you are looking to buy silver jewelry with real precious stones, ruby, emeralds and sapphires, but also semi-precious stones, such as garnets, citrine, onyx or amethyst, you should try Ravia's shop. The website looks sophisticated, but the shop, in F8 markaz, hidden inside one of the buildings; is actually very understated and not intimidating at all.

Prices are reasonable and they will not try to cheat you or sell you fake things. Highly recommended! And the perfect place to look for great gifts that will impress for Christmas and birthdays!

There are several actual flower markets in Islamabad, of which the best known are in F10, F6 (opposite the sports ground at one side, and in F7 (opposite the market almost level with Sayeed Book Bank).

They all consist of individual shops, and like everything in Islamabad it helps if you get to know one individual shop and keep returning there, for better service and prices.

Once you choose your flowers, you will be offered a chance to get them wrapped, which usually involves cellophane and ribbon, sometimes beautifully and artistically arranged.

Do NOT buy the ready made bunches or baskets, unless you are in a hurry and need something to present quickly, as usually they look good at presentation but consist of flowers of different lengths and too much green matter to plump up the arrangement, and when you get them out to put them in a vase, they look like nothing much! It's also quite fun to watch how they decorate cars with flowers for weddings at the flower markets. It used to be that cars (to carry the bride) were decorated with tinsel only, but it's more fun and more effective if they choose flowers, I believe.

Of course, there are flowers for all occasions....at the other end of life flowers and rose petals are used to decorate graves, and every function in between will involve flower garlands, wrist bands of rose heads, as sold at traffic lights. In season, the sellers at traffic lights offer jasmine necklaces, which you can use to hang in the car and create a much better smell than the artificial scented discs.
